Fully Operational At Last!
We are all still learning but with community cooperation we can do the right thing.

Well after what seems like YEARS, the Vortex and our new website are fully operational at last :) We have had a lot of fundraisers for different community groups and helped them support their causes. People are learning how to host here and having more and more successful shows. We are all still learning but with community cooperation we can do the right thing.
It's awesome to be plugged into the neighborhood spirit. We also appreciate our connection with the larger activist networks everywhere. By making this space available to groups that are trying to improve things, we raise funds and raise consciousness. We're glad that people get it, doing public service can be fun while achieving substantial results.
SOME RECENT HIGHLIGHTS:
1) Cannibal Flower, always a favorite, had a beautiful, well-orchestrated show where local artists were able to sell their work, and money and food were raised for Food Bank. Kind of a perfect marriage of Art and Service. LC is the bomb, he really knows how to host a classy AND hip event.
2) Tito's Tuesday Night Open Mike deserves huge support!! It is really awesome, tell your friends. It's way more chill than going to a club. You can always see bands and the variety of acts is amazing. Buffalo Electric played a few weeks ago and totally got me out of my cave to go watch their whole set. Man, that band's an unsigned wonder!! There's my hot A&R tip for the day :P
3) Larva's Wed 5:30 Yoga classes are filling up. Whitney has become a regular as instructor, and Destiny and James always liven things up with their energy :)
4) Chuy and Co's show 'Yeah Gurl That's The Price' was a phenomenon! Great way to do a flea market! What a cool, low-drama shopping party! They will definitely be back. It's kind of a gurly/gayish indoor fashion fair, with lots of local art and vintage clothing booths. Larva helped Chuy bring this to the Vortex, we really needed stuff like this. This was a daytime to evening event with DJ's and tons of costumed foot traffic.
Hey if you wanna be listed in our blog, send a paragraph or so about your event to
blog@vortexla.org and we will post it :)
